On Saturday, August 2 at 7:00 pm at the First Church in Jaffrey, Electric Earth Concerts will present “Ladies on the Move!” Our 2020 celebration of the vote for women fell victim to the pandemic, so for the 105th anniversary we offer music by New Hampshire’s own Amy Beach, Katie Semro, Elise Grant, and celebrated Chinese American Chen Yi.
The program includes: Chen-Yi: Night Thoughts for Piano Trio Amy Beach: Piano Quintet Katie Semro: Let it Sound for String Trio Elise Grant: Early Morning Mist on the Pond for Flute and Piano
Chen-Yi is a prolific composer who blends Chinese and Western traditions, transcending cultural and musical boundaries.
Amy Beach was an American composer and pianist. She was the first successful American composer of large-scale art music.
Katie Semro creates music that is dramatic, beautiful, and often melodic, but doesn’t shy away from sorrow, anger, and chaos. Elise Grant’s compositions cover a wide range both in style and substance. Her portfolio includes original pieces for puppets, plays, outdoor theatrical productions, innumerable chamber concerts and an opera involving over 80 performers, employing instruments from solos to symphonic. Admission is $30, payable online (www.electricearthconcerts.org) or at the door via cash or check. Students may attend for free. About Electric Earth Concerts: Electric Earth Concerts is a year-round concert series based in the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire. Our name and philosophy are inspired by Beethoven’s words: "Music is the electric earth in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents." Beethoven felt that ideas of mysterious and divine origin come to fruition when given voice in the "electric" language of music, and Electric Earth Concerts honors his idea that music is fertile ground for the spirit. At the heart of the organization is a desire to make music in an environment alive and open to creative discovery. EEC’s mission is twofold: to present diverse, challenging, and often interdisciplinary concerts in acoustically fine locations around the region, and to bring music to places where it can make a difference — to schools, rehabilitation centers, and communities for people with disabilities.
