Gather in remembrance of a great leader to reflect on the values he stood for and renew commitment to peace, community, and social justice. This year’s program will celebrate song and delve into its powerful influence. Music played an important role in Dr. King’s life and in the Civil Rights Movement, helping to build community and support the quest for equal rights.
The Monadnock Chorus and Dublin School Chorus headline the program with “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the gorgeous, iconic hymn to African American struggle, hope and faith. Jaffrey fifth-graders will do presentations on important singer-activists, and there will be more music!
The keynote address, hosted by the Cathedral of the Pines the following Sunday, January 25, 2:00 p.m., will be delivered by Andre de Quadros, Professor of Music at Boston University, international conductor, ethnomusicologist, writer, and human rights activist. More about this program may be found in the MLK Day Chamber listing for Jan 25 or at www.cathedralofthepines.org.
