The MLK Day 2026 theme, “Lift Every Voice: A Celebration in Song,” recognizes the importance of singing in Dr. King’s life and in the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Andre de Quadros will delve into the powerful influence of music, sharing his experiences around the world with musical performance and healing, reconciliation, and peacebuilding.
Dr. de Quadros is Professor of Music at Boston University, an international music director, ethno-musicologist, writer, and human rights activist. Dr. de Quadros’ career is imbued with the spirit of Dr. King. He has worked in over 40 countries in diverse settings including professional ensembles, prisons, psychosocial rehabilitation, and with refugees and victims of torture and trauma. His projects seek to generate collaborations and promote understanding. Since 2010, Dr. de Quadros has co-directed historic projects bringing together young Palestinians and Israelis for dialogue through music.
Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr gathers people in remembrance of a great leader to reflect on the values he stood for and renew commitment to peace, community, and social justice. The programs celebrate shared positive values that lift the spirit, enrich understanding of human experience, and sustain a hopeful outlook.
